After months of rumors, Microsoft has finally announced its official plans for bringing a wide selection of cable and broadcast television programming to Xbox Live.

Major Nelson, the official Xbox blogger, just posted a long list of entertainment partners that have signed on to bring programming to Xbox Live. It's quite impressive.

While the complete list shows both U.S., international, and previously existing partners, I've highlighted the new additions for the U.S. Keep in mind, you will likely already have to be a cable subscriber to access this content on Xbox Live, as indicated by this note at the end of the blog post:

"Xbox LIVE Gold membership and/or other subscriptions/fees required. Kinect functionality varies by feature, provider and region."

** Denotes existing partners on Xbox LIVE available today.
“I know it's not thematically in tune with my new job and all, but I find it effective. Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day," I say. "But set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life. Tao of Pratchett. I live by it.”
