Literature & Comic Books / Jack Reacher Novels
« on: April 13, 2013, 05:54:54 PM »
I recommend these novels ... love this character .

here is his bio from wiki

Jack Reacher is a former Major in the United States Army Military Police Corps. He was born on a military base in Berlin on 29 October 1960. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he served 13 years in the Military Police, during which time he became part of a fictional military police unit, the 110th Special Investigations Unit, formed to handle exceptionally tough cases, especially those involving members of the U.S. Army Special Forces.

Though he was demoted from Major to Captain in the prequel novel The Enemy, he regained his rank by the time he mustered out in 1997. He received many military awards during his career, including the Silver Star, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Soldier's Medal, the Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart for wounds sustained in the bombing of the U.S. Marine Corps barracks in Beirut in 1983.

Since leaving the Army, Reacher has been a drifter. He wanders throughout the U.S. because he was accustomed to being told where to go, when to go and what to do for every day of his life from military childhood to military adulthood. He also felt he never got to know his own country, having spent much of his youth living overseas on military bases and at West Point. He usually travels by hitchhiking or bus. As a drifter, the only possessions he carries are money, a foldable toothbrush and, after 9/11, an expired passport and an ATM debit card.

author of the novels is Lee Chind .  if you get a chance I say pick up the books .

Actually like this game a lot ... really enjoy the my player of this game . go from a minor league player and try to work your way up into the majors .  I find it quite fun , you can pick a role and try to excel at that role , from slugger , to starting pitcher , to closer

Right now I am in the second year of my career in the Tigers Organization   . I took the role of a starting pitcher ,  I decided to make him a workhorse , which means he has a high stamina and is able to stay in the game longer and through more pitches. playing for the Double A Erie Sea wolves , finish the season with 10 -2 record with an era of 1.14 and 96 strike outs    had total of 3 no decisions and my two loses were not my fault , the manager took my out early in games and other  pitchers blew the lead and I got saddle with the lose

Took the Wolves to the playoffs and won both my playoff starts with complete game shut outs , but they lose the championship series 3-2 ... it sucks when you can not effect the game that your not playing

got spring training call up ... not quite good enough for the major yet ... but I ended up with a 1.24 era in my spring training  ,  so I am about to start second season in Erie ... but I think I only need  to improve a few things before I get the major league call

my pitches are the 4 seam fastball , the sinker and the change up

TV/Film / Famous Actors re-imagined as Marvel Superheroes
« on: February 10, 2013, 09:34:12 AM »
Just thought I share this bit of awesomeness

From Geektryant.com

By Jim Napier

Artist Alex Tuis has designed some sweet art that reimagines a number of famous actors as Marvel superheroes. Here is a description from his Blog:

"I had always dreamed that one day we could see a Marvel Super Hero movie.

Now we have the Spider-Man movies, the X-Men movies, Thor and now the Avengers. But they don't have my dream cast.

I hope you will enjoy this original take on these famous characters."

My personal favorites are Rutger Hauer as Thor and Bruce Lee as Spidey. Check out the images below thanks to CBM.

I love Bruce Lee as Spiderman ... Christoper Walken as Professor X

Literature & Comic Books / The Book of the Week
« on: February 08, 2013, 04:21:46 PM »
Ok , Everyone going to use this thread and recommend a book that I think that everyone should least try to read .  Going to call it the book of the week.  Every week I will highlight a book that I have read and ask everyone to least try to read it when they get a chance.   I have read a lot of books , so this thing going to fill up quickly  lol

Kicking this off is one of my favorite books , it by an author  that I think you should all know if you grew up in the eighties .  He was  the man behind many hit shows  A-Team , 21 Jump Street , Rockford Files , Wiseguy and many other hit shows and movies

Stephen J. Cannell  Sadly , He past away back in 2010 , but the man was a damn good novelist also , He had written some great novels , Shane Scully Series is really good,  which I will be showcasing in the near future , but that one book that I love  and re-read  many times now is called King Con

Here what it is about

Raised in a world of flimflams, come-ons and con-jobs, Beano Bates has done so well he's earned a spot on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List. But his lucky streak vanishes after a card game in which he scams a cool eighty grand from a notorious Mafia don—who retaliates by having Beano nearly beaten to death.

For the first time in his legendary career, Beano wants more than a big score—he wants justice. Aided by a beautiful, no-nonsense female prosecutor and a legion of crafty cousins, all accomplished grifters, Beano, the king of the cons, puts together the ultimate swindle—a well-planned sting of strategy, skill and deception. The target is America's most feared mob kingpin and his psychopathic brother. And in this game, winner takes all!

High Recommended ,  great story , great characters ... great book by a great writer

Literature & Comic Books / The Sports Book Thread
« on: February 07, 2013, 04:33:39 PM »
Being that I am a huge sports fan , it also means that I love books about sports. From Bio books , to books with a certain sport as the theme to all things in between, I try to read as much as I can .  So with this thread I am going to introduce sports books that I think everyone should least check out when they get the time.  I encourage  you to recommend  some of the sports, or sports theme books that you read .  Hey there might be some thing out there that I have not read  yet and I might want to check it out .

Now to kick this thing off ,  Seeing that the football season have ended I recommend that you read a book written by what I feel is a damn good writer  his a quick sum of who he is

Michael Lupica  is an American newspaper columnist, best known for his provocative commentary on sports in the New York Daily News and his appearances on ESPN

The novel I recommend that you check out is called Bump and Run

Here what the book is about

A black comic inside novel about the world of professional football. As the go-to guy in Las Vegas, Jack Malloy thought he knew it all, but that was before he inherited half of the New York Hawks and found that, next to the denizens of the country of Football, he was just a babe in the woods. Over the course of a single season, Malloy will get a crash course in steroids, gambling, crooked quarterbacks, idiot sportswriters, control-freak coaches and philandering announcers. He will end up with his brother and sister co-owners -- "the demon-seed twins" -- out to get him, along with his coach, the commissioner and most of his fellow owners. He will find out just how far every mogul in America who doesn't have his own football team will go to get one. And he just might wind up falling in love with Kate, the smart, funny, tough woman who also happens to be his team president. How Malloy prevails (or doesn't) against this sea of adversity is something only a writer like Mike Lupica would dare to dream up, but if you've ever wondered what you would do if you owned a football team...well, Lupica's your guy.

Trust me it worth a read , I enjoyed it a lot and tend to good back and read it again from time to time
