"Religion" plays a pretty large role in my life. Not in the sunday church going, memorizing scripture sort of way. But in the way I try to live my life, and in the way I see the world and the purpose that we're here.
I believe in Christ, and his teachings. But I also have read much of Gandhi, and generally just run any religious text I come across through an internal barometer, I guess. Does this make the world a better place? Does this spread love and kindness?
I'm not big into black and white rules governing this way, or that. I also think that history tends to show a pretty consistent trend of politics and culture influencing text. For example, King _____ says God wanted him to slaughter 5000 people from the tribe of _____. No, that wasn't God telling the chosen one to do that, that was the King doing whatever he wanted because he was king and nobody could tell him no, and the historians/ministers/etc writing down what he wanted them to.
