MMA / EFK UFC Prediction Game 2013 P4P RANKINGS
« on: January 03, 2012, 01:21:07 PM »
Welcome to EFK's UFC Prediction Game. If you are interested in playing please sign up and enjoy a forum tradition, three years in the making.

We will run this game from the first event in January through the last event in December & the scoring will work like this:

1 point for correctly predicting the outcome
1 point for correctly predicting the finish (if your outcome was right)
1 point for correctly predicting the round (if your outcome was right)
For the purposes of this game DQ, TKO's & KO's will be counted as the same

Bonus 2 points for correctly naming the "Fight Of The Night" (FOTN will be identified as the UFC's official FOTN in which both fighters receive bonuses, if FOTN goes to a fight that we weren't predicting there will be no bonus)
Bonus 3 points for correctly predicting 3 outcomes
Bonus 6 points for correctly predicting 3 fights dead on (i.e. Right outcome, finish & round)

In the event of a tie in scoring our tiebreakers will be first the number of correct outcome predictions & secondly number of bonus points acquired.

Predictions will be accepted up until scheduled starting time but try not to leave it too late, I don't want anyone being caught out by international events & the time difference. There will be no signups. You can come as you please, but missing events will affect your ranking on the p4p list. Dont piss me off by missing events.

***NEW*** IN CASE OF MISCALCULATION, EVENTS WILL NOW HAVE THEIR OWN THREAD. THEY WILL BE LOCKED UPON COMPLETION OF THE EVENT, SO IF THERES ANY ERROR YOU CAN REFER TO THE THREAD, AS OPPOSE TO HAVING TO PM EVERYONE THEIR PICKS.

I am stoned... take that Duckman.  :P I've decided to offer some life truths to the younger generation that we have here. Things which have always rang true but no-one sits you down & tells you. Feel free to cross examine my musings & add your own.

Football
When the defending team makes a substitution at a corner… they will concede.
When a striker faces the club he’s just been signed from… he will score.
When you bet your own team to win… they will draw.
Great football players… will become awful managers.

Wrestling
At least once a year WWE… will turn the Big Show… & he will be back to the midcard in 2 months.
No matter what the subject Michael Hayes & Mick Foley... will find a way to tell a story about themselves.
Match of the Year... will never be for the WWE Title.
WWE wrestlers will never become superstars... until they suffer a serious injury.

Music
Anyone who owns skinny jeans… will form musical opinions before based on album sales rather than the album content.
All great bands… will have friction between the members.
All boy bands who make it big… will have a gay member.
If you seen a band before they broke up... you will be disappointed when you see the reformed version.

General
99% of successful people… will not be nice people.
Anyone who claims to have no fears… will be deeply insecure.
Anyone with more than 3 piercings in their face… will have third level education.
Anyone who claims that Citizen Kane is there favourite movie… will not like Rocky IV.
Anyone who judges people for using drugs… will not have taken them themselves.
Domestic abuse victims… will always give the abuser another chance.
Anyone who dies young… will be remembered as much more than they were.

Music / My Friend's Stuff (Includes The Fabled "Cunt Fucker" Link)
« on: September 19, 2011, 06:49:02 PM »
I was going to do the old EFK thing of "please click like" but I figured that music is so subjective that I'd just post a load at once & you could check them out. I just ask that you don't leave negative comments (not that I think anyone would) these people are my actual friends

Dutch Schultz - We call it "Kevvy Metal" because the drummer is Kevvy but I guess it's best described as dirty rock & roll with pop choruses? LA Cunt Fucker is about how porn never has a story anymore & It Bends In The Middle is about being rid so hard that your knob may break... yeah, saints one & all

http://youtu.be/L2-ZJQZrIxM
http://youtu.be/dkb0V6bFHKU

F.O.G (Friend's Of Granleese) - It's my name, Granleese is another friend of ours. Think Nirvana. These videos are really rough & they'd only been together 3 months or so when they were made but they're my boys & I like it.

http://youtu.be/rsH30oAHFaQ

LaFaro - The singer is a dick but the band are deadly. Riff-tastic goodness. They've got a great song called Heskey but there are no good links to the full track.

http://youtu.be/lhASR6y4Tco
http://youtu.be/_7jYhQK7aVM

Sweet Savage - 80s metal. Not my cup of tea but it's my uncle's band. Metallica covered Killing Time for Garage Inc. The second link is James Hetfield jumping onstage with them when they were supporting Metallica. My uncle is the guitarist with grey hair & a shit shirt.

http://youtu.be/ygiW0L0pTUA
http://youtu.be/rHjwULuCD8U

The Belfast music scene is brilliant right now with bands like Two Door Cinema Club & Cashier Number 9 getting loads of mainstream attention but I either don't know or like any of them so fuck 'em, they aren't getting any mentions except this little gem. It's old & the slang may not translate but I still love it. It's a band called Jetplane Landing (who's bassist Cahir is actually touring with LaFaro atm) doing a Derry take on that "Whatever" song by Liam Lynch

They will then go into the final group & we get EFK's suggestion for the next HOF inductee.

Groups were done via random.org so don't blame me!

Wrestling / WWE Hall Of Fame Game Set-Up

Abdullah The Butcher, Andre The Giant, Antonio Inoki, Antonio Rocca, Arnold Skaaland, “Baron” Mikel Scicluna, “Big” John Studd, Bill Watts, "Superstar" Billy Graham, The Blackjacks (Blackjack Windham & Blackjack Lanza), Bob Armstrong, "Cowboy" Bob Orton, Bob Uecker, Bobby Heenan, Bobo Brazil, Bret Hart, Brisco Brothers (Jack & Gerard Brisco), Buddy Rogers, “Captain” Lou Albano, Chief Jay Strongbow, “Classy” Freddie Blassie, Curt Hennig, Don Muraco, Drew Carey, Dusty Rhodes, Eddie Graham, Eddie Guerrero, Ernie Ladd, Fabulous Moolah, The Funks (Terry & Dory Funk Jr), Gene Okerlund, George Steele, Gordon Solie, Gorgeous George, Gorilla Monsoon, Grand Wizard, Greg Valentine, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, Harley Race, Howard Finkel, Hulk Hogan, Iron Sheik, Ivan Putski, James Dudley, Jerry Lawler, Jesse "The Body" Ventura, Jim Ross, Jimmy Hart, Jimmy Snuka, Johnny Rodz, Junkyard Dog, Killer Kowalski, Koko B Ware, “Mad Dog” Vachon, Mae Young, Mr. Fuji, Nick Bockwinkel, Nikolai Volkoff, Pat Patterson, Paul Orndorff, Pedro Morales, Pete Rose, Peter Maivia, Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Road Warriors (Animal & Hawk), Rocky Johnson, Roddy Piper, “Sensational” Sherri, Shawn Michaels, Sunny, Ted DiBiase, The Sheik, Sgt Slaughter, "Stunning" Steve Austin, Stu Hart, Tito Santana, Tony Atlas, Valiant Brothers (Jimmy & Johnny Valiant), Verne Gagne, Vince McMahon Sr, The Von Erichs (Them all… except Lacey obviously), Wendy Richter, Wild Samoans (Afa & Sika) & William “The Refrigerator” Perry

All these men & women are in the WWE Hall Of Fame. Some deserve it... some don't. I'm going to set up a tournament (not a traditional tournament btw but it's hard to explain) to decide who EFK feel deserves to be in there more than Vince Sr's limo driver or a shitty fucking comedian who had to climb over the ropes at a Royal Rumble because his fat ass wasn't co-ordinated enough to fall on some guys who professionally have people fall on them.

I'm looking for 20 names for the tournament & I've got a fuck load of my own so it'll probably need cut down. Give me names (& explanations, unless you feel like someone else made a good case, so I can cut it down to the 20 most worthy) Feel free to duplicate but don't repeat the same guy any more than 4 times... if they get 4 their in.

It can be anyone but:

1. They don't have to be wrestlers but they have to have had an impact on wrestling (not necessarily WWE) Tag teams, celebrities, managers etc. are welcome if they fit the bill
2. They cannot be an active wrestler, promoter or regular on-air personality for WWE, TNA or ROH
3. I don't have a third... I just think things look better written in threes (go back & check out me rp's... most things are in threes, guess I'm superstitious)

You've got until Monday or until it seems like we've reached saturation point

Has anyone heard about this? Google it now, I'll wait....

....fucking awesome right? For those who didn't want to/couldn't be arsed looking it up, it is essentially a worldwide treasure hunt generally based around sites of natural beauty or historical significance. (So if you live in the States there probably aren't any  :P ) People hide boxes filled with trinkets for other users to find & swap something of theirs with & a log for anyone who finds it to sign. I just thought it was a really interesting use of GPS technology & wanted to bring it to the attention of the EFK Galaxy.

On a side note, I thought I'd be a nice thing for the EFK Fit Club lads to get into as running can be tedious & these caches are often located on towpaths & things so would give you something to do as you're running.

MMA / Ken Shamrock vs James Toney?
« on: June 24, 2011, 11:13:49 AM »
Quote
MMA pioneer Ken Shamrock (28-15-2) and current International Boxing Association heavyweight champion James Toney (0-1 MMA, 73-6 Boxing) have reportedly agreed to meet in a mixed martial arts contest this fall.

According to the professional boxer's camp, both the 47-year-old Shamrock and the 42-year-old Toney have both signed on for the contest, though a specific date and location have yet to be announced.

El Paso, Texas, appears to be the leading candidate to host the matchup, which was first reported by BJPenn.com.

Shamrock, who took part in the Ultimate Fighting Championship's debut event in November 1993, has remained active over the years. The PRIDE and Pancrase veteran stumbled through a difficult 1-7 stretch between 2002 and 2008, but Shamrock is now 2-2 in his past four fights after picking up wins over Johnathan Ivey and Ross Clifton.

Meanwhile, Toney made an improbably MMA debut this past August, when he was submitted in the first round by UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture at UFC 118. "Lights Out" went back to his primary focus in February, notching a unanimous-decision win over challenger Damon Reed and defending his IBA heavyweight boxing title.

It's currently unclear what promotion is backing the fight, and broadcast plans have yet to be announced

Am I the only one who's morbidly fascinated by this story? Shamrock is just crazy enough to try & stand with Toney.

In-Character Q&A
These are very useful in 'getting' the character, so please answer the questions in-character!

What is your crowning achievement?
Where do I start? I was the only Grand Slam champion in the history of Evolution Wrestling… how does that taste Thunder? I created my own promotion & forced EPW to run it in the middle of their show. I took bitchy little commentator Bobby Robertson & made a man out of him. The list goes on but I guess my crowning achievement is that the fans have never stopped loving me

Are you comfortable in cheating, and why/why not?
If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying!

What is your general attitude to facing people you've never seen before?
Wait… I thought the Experts tournament was for the best of the best… kind of like the Kumite for wrestling. If I haven’t heard of you, you aren’t worthy to be in my ring.

If you had to give the rest of the competitors one fact about you, what would it be?
That they are in the presence of greatness & they should cherish every moment that they are around next True Expert

Why are you going to win the tournament?
I’m not flying my ass out to Siberia for the weather. Be it because of my good looks, my unmatched talent or my incredible intellect, I’m bringing home the gold

What do you think about possibly going to the Siberian Prison in the elimination rounds?
I was there last year so it holds no surprises for me. It’s uncomfortable, cold & the room service sucks… not unlike every hotel in Dublin. I’m not looking forward to it but I know that my destiny lies just behind those bars

Any final notes we should know about you?
When I fly into Siberia it’ll be like the Beatles at Shea so be prepared. Luckily Bobby signs all my autographs so I don’t need to be there, just want you to be prepared

I found this pretty funny. Check out his reaction when Paul Daley floors Nick Diaz. The colour drains from his face when he realises that the guy he said would never work for Zuffa again might be about to be their first Strikeforce champion!
